Top universities and specialties chosen by foreigners to study in Ukraine – Dr. Olena Shapovalova presented statistics of invitations for study

Which Ukrainian higher education institutions and specialties are chosen by foreign citizens? What are the issues and specifics of admission in 2021? These questions were discussed by the Director of the Ukrainian State Center for International Education Dr. Olena Shapovalova during the seminar on the internationalization of higher education, which took place on October 28-29, 2021 at G.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University.

“This year, the statistics of invitations are significantly different from previous years. One of the reasons is the lack of applicants from India in medical universities, who usually lead in the number of invitations. After all, Indian graduates have not yet had the time to apply, as they have just received the results of their exam for admission to medical specialties.” – explained Dr. Olena Shapovalova.

Thus, most invitations for study were registered at:
1. Private Higher Education Institution “International European University”;
2. V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University;
3. National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”;
4. Odesa State Agrarian University;
5. Kharkiv National Medical University;
6. Private Institution of Higher Education «Film and New Media Academy»;
7. Poltava University of Economics and Trade;
8. Limited Liability Company “Dnipro Medical Institute of Traditional and Nontraditional Medicine”;
9. Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics;
10. Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University.

The most popular specialties among foreign applicants are medicine, management, economics, dentistry, computer sciences, computer engineering, secondary education (by subject specializations), pharmacy and industrial pharmacy, philology, chemical technologies and engineering.

Among the problematic aspects of the admission campaign highlighted by Dr. Olena Shapovalova are the responsibility of universities when issuing invitations in person, limited choice of the language of study, pause in admission caused by the approval process of amendments to the order that would extend the terms of admission for foreigners until December 15, 2021.
