February 11 marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The holiday was introduced by the resolution of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly on December 22, 2015.
 
On this day, the UN calls on all countries and organizations to promote equal participation of men and women in research, their advancement in science and in other fields related to the development of scientific knowledge. This holiday has already established itself as one of the important mechanisms for drawing attention to the issue of gender inequality in society.
