Nowadays, more than 63000 international students from almost 150 countries study at 185 higher education institutions in Ukraine.
Almost half of international students, who get higher education in Ukraine (44,61%) are citizens of Post-Soviet countries – Azerbaijan (16,14%), Turkmenistan (15,34%), Georgia (4,48%), Uzbekistan (2,69%), Russian Federation (2,49%), Moldova (1,6 %), Armenia (0,68%), Republic of Belarus (0,46%), Tajikistan (0,44%), Kazakhstan (0,19%), etc. In addition, there are many students from Asian and African countries in Ukraine – from India (9,6%), Nigeria (5,63%), Morocco (5,36%), Jordan (3,94%), Iraq (3,85%) and China (3,26%).
International students get higher education mainly in state higher education establishments in Ukraine (89,63%), which are well recognized abroad. The most popular universities among international students are V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (4528 students), Kharkiv National Medical University (3565 students), Odessa National Medical University (2652 students).
Therefore, the most popular Ukrainian cities among international students are Kharkiv, Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Lviv and Poltava. In particular, more than 21 000 international students are studying in Kharkiv.
