Upon arrival

If you plan to stay in Ukraine for a longer period (longer than 90 days), you must apply for a Temporary Residence Permit.

This permit serves as your official ID in Ukraine and confirms that you are legally allowed to live in the country during your studies.

The permit can be issued at:

  • a local office of the State Migration Service of Ukraine, or
  • a Center for Administrative Services

When should you apply?

Processing the permit can take up to 15 days, so make sure to submit your documents at least 15 days before your visa or visa-free stay expires.

Documents required

To apply for a Temporary Residence Permit, you will need to submit:

  • a valid passport with a Type D visa
  • a copy of your passport personal data page, translated into Ukrainian and notarized
  • a valid health insurance policy covering the entire period of your stay (and its copy)
  • an official confirmation from your university stating that you are enrolled and showing the duration of your studies
  • a letter from the university confirming that it will inform the State Migration Service if your studies are terminated
  • proof of payment of the administrative fee

You may also be asked to provide additional documents, such as:

  • proof of accommodation (ownership, rental, or sublease agreement)
  • an employment or internship contract (if applicable)

Validity and cost

The Temporary Residence Permit is issued for the duration of your studies, based on the official study period set by your university.
